2018 Go Red Chair, Helen Lidholm, Saint Mary's Health Network
I am truly honored to serve as the 2018 Go Red For Women Chair in northern Nevada. Having worked in the healthcare field for over 25 years, I am passionate about educating our community on the prevention of this devastating disease and invite you to join with me in supporting the cause. While Heart Disease and Stroke remain the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. This is why the Go Red Movement is so important. I truly believe that we can move the needle—but it will take the commitment of many to get there.
Go Red works to educate women on the power we hold to lower our risk factors. The funds we raise through Go Red support vital research (the American Heart Association is currently funding two Research Fellows at the University of Nevada-Reno Medical School), local programs such as “Teens Cook With Heart”, CPR training in the schools, and many other programs and strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke where we learn, live, work, and play.
I am excited to announce “A Different Beat” as our Go Red theme this year. Our aim is to encourage women to not only look at our physical health, but our mental and spiritual health as well. Focusing on 4 Pillars of health: nutrition, exercise, stress management and sleep, we will pose the question: what do we do to center ourselves? What are some new things that we can try to incorporate in our daily lives to slow down, enjoy life and truly de-stress.
We look forward to having you join us at the Go Red For Women Luncheon on Friday February 23, 2018 at the Downtown Reno Ballroom. You and over 700 Go Red supporters can attend Go Red Wellness Breakout Sessions in the morning and afternoon, bid on the infamous Purse Auction, enjoy lunch, and learn how to support and inspire others to improve their health and wellness.
I also encourage you to participate in Go Red activities in the workplace, with family, friends, and for yourself. National Wear Red day is Friday, February 2nd—and a great time to kick off heart-month with co-workers and loved ones.
I look forward to working with you to help carry the mission of health of Go Red to our northern Nevada community.
With heartfelt gratitude,
CEO, Saint Mary’s Health Network
